Okay... so maybe a specific question will spark some discussion :

What's your favorite restaurant in the Inland Empire?

Why?

I haven't lived in Spokane in more than 10 years... so my restaurant experience is limited to memories of high school–era outtings, and the few restaurants I've managed to visit during my trips home to see family.

As a young adult, I have a few memories of restaurants — the restaurant in CDA that was built on peers over the lake, and its delightful salmon; the first Onion Seed Café downtown with its over-priced menu and poor service; the dim sum joint in the Sky Walk (mm...); and Ron's Drive-In in the Valley... the best damn corn dogs anywhere.

Now that I'm an adult, my restaurant experience has been limited to the Golden Corral on North Division (a favorite of my senior-citizen family), Clink & Daggers in the Flour Mill (great recipies, poorly prepared), and the Spike (the only cyber café in town).

    Save me from mediocrity!

Point me towards some great spots!

I like Mootsy's Pizza. I also like the Pizza Rita's at the bus plaza. Nowhere near gourmet, but Mootsy's justs tastes great and Rita's is a buck a slice! (2 for a buck if you time it right!)

I'll have to try the Satellite Diner though. It sounds nice.

    The Elk!
Great beer selection... excellent food... when I'm back for a visit it's always first on my (short) list of restaurants to hit.

Greg, thank you for mentioning one of the best local Pubs!

I agree the Elk has some great dishes. Being a vegetarian there aren't many options for us, but their bean burger is seriously mouth watering, and you can get a half order of any salad they make along with your meal. I go for the creamy curry salad with my order every time, I've heard the potato salad isn't up to par.

I have been here for just about 25 years now and have found quite a few places noteworthy. I'll list them here and in no specific order, just as they come to mind:

The Elk Public House (Beer, Wine and a full menu of various items) -
      1931 W Pacific Av
      Spokane, WA 99204 - 0825
      (509) 363-1973

Cannon Street Grill (Freshest breakfast in town. Also across the street from The Elk.)
      144 S Cannon St
      Spokane, WA 99204 - 0873
      (509) 456-8660

Gordy's Schezwan Cafe (Super tasty Chinese food) -
      501 E 30th Av
      Spokane, WA 99203 - 2557
      (509) 747-1170

Slick Rock Burrito (Freshest burritos in town, and they're huge!) -
      (downtown)
      827 W 1st
      Spokane, WA 99201 - 3904
      (509) 847-1234

      (South Hill)
      2926 S Grand Blvd
      Spokane, WA 99203 - 2530
      (509) 747-6041

Luna (Fine dining, romantic atmosphere. Excellent pizza's.) -
      5620 S Perry St
      Spokane, WA 99223 - 6347
      (509) 448-2383

Linnies Thai Cuisine (Best Thai in town, hands down.) -
      1301 W 3rd Av
      Spokane, WA 99201 - 4621
      (509) 835-5800

Jimmy'z Newstand & Espresso Cafe (Sandwiches like you get 'em back east.)
      521 W Sprague Av
      Spokane, WA 99201 - 3808
      (509) 838-7613

Suki Yaki Inn (Some of Spokane's best Japanese cuisine from sushi to their private sit-on-the-floor style rooms in the back.)
      119 N Bernard St
      Spokane, WA 99201 - 0203
      (509) 624-0022

Europa Pizzaria & Bakery (Awesome little Italian joint, great atmosphere.)
      125 S Wall St
      Spokane, WA 99201 - 3814
      (509) 455-4051

There are probably others that I'm not thinking of, or will list later, but it's making me very hungry to think about all of them. I must go eat!

Cyrus O'Leary's & The Steam Plant both have good food & booze, Kalico Kitchen has decent breakfast and they're very friendly, Aztecca has good Mexican, and Shogun has the best sushi I've found in town.

      Hey Bitches!

I know all of you need to stretch your money out. Living in Spokane you can't help but be poor. So I suggest you beat feet to the Schoolhouse, just outside of Castlegar in B.C. -- in a little town called Brilliant. The food kicks ass and we walked away after the currency conversion paying $50 US for what would be a hundred dollar meal in your little hood!

      What we got:

      Three courses -
an appetizer (Mmmmm venison sausage) Serves over vegetables
      Some wine
A main Dish (Mmmmmm Rib Steak that was yum and some other froofy shit- Garlic Mashed Sweet Potatoes- AND the BEST grilled vegetables ever).
      More Wine
Desert - Mmmmmmm Dark and White Chocolate Mousse with Strawberry Compote.
      Kick-Ass Coffee

My Bitch was having some russian food which was alright but my shit was BOMB!

So show some love to your neighbors up north, and they just might show some love back at you.

It's a little embarrassing to admit that most of the dining experiences I have had in Spokane, have been of the fast food variety. Plus, I don't really have any dining companions, so it's stay home and cook; or be brave and dine alone. But I really like places I can hang out in for a few hours. I like to hang out in the downtown areas. I used to hang out at Jimmy Z's, but haven't in a few years. I can still remember when David's pizza was off Riverside; really like them. My fave would have to be Chicken N' More. The place, especially the old location, reminded so much of the south; as of course did the chicken. They use a pressure cooker, and it's a family run business. As for fine dining, like I said, I haven't done much, but I recall eating a very passable duck a la orange at Ankeny's at the Ridpath, and the view is awesome.

I don't live in Spokane, but nearby in Post Falls and spend my weekends in Spokane mostly. I am kind of a beef fiend (forgive me lovely vegans & vegetarians!!) and choose Applebee's for economics and good food. There's two other little known/mentioned restaurants that I like in the Valley as well - The Ironhorse (killer prime rib) and Cafe Americana (in the OLD mall on Sprague).

i used to lovelovelove hill's someplace else but i don't even know if it still exists. gotta check. they used to have the best thai steamed clams. i also love the soup at gino's - i get that to go when i'm sick. luigi's is yummy. and i've had really good pho in a few spots... can't recall the name but there is one on hamilton north of the safeway (there is also one just south of safeway across from arnie's that is pretty decent as well). speaking of arnies, i used to love that place but i think it went downhill. i remember way back when that was a tastee freeze (or something) and they used to serve stromboli's... i think arnie's still does the stromboli's...
